Morgan Aeromax Review

Overview4 out of 5

There's no doubt the Aeromax attracts interest. Park up in any busy town and within minutes you can expect an excited throng. 'Wot is it mister? How fast? Wot's it cost?'. 'Is it a new Bentley?' will be staple questions from the ill-informed.

It is a pretty car and you don't need to squint to appreciate the beauty. Think back eight years and that's quite a turnaround from the criticism the original boss-eyed Aero received. The styling changes wrought on the Aeromax by Morgan's precociously young designer, Matt Humphries, especially the coupe rear roofline, reminiscent of the Bugatti Type 35 with its butterfly wing rear windows, have turned the ugly duckling into a swan.

The Aeromax was first seen three years ago at the Geneva Motor Show as a one-off for the Swiss banker who backed Morgan's GT3 race programme. Its rakish looks drew general approval and Morgan quickly realised it had a winner on its hands. Just 100 are being built at the rate of two a week, so the £110,000+ two-seater isn't going to be a common sight on our roads.

Its six-figure price tag puts it in the realms of some seriously good machinery from the likes of Aston Martin, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche but there, as you will discover, is where the similarity ends.
