Great Fire of London

Great Fire of London

2–6 September 1666

The Great Fire of London burned the city for five days and nights. Charles II and his brother James showed a degree of personal courage by directing rescue operations, but in the end, 80% of the City was destroyed and up to 200,000 people left homeless, although only five died.

For more about the conflagration and its legacy, see Fire.
